Why Hiteka
Hiteka presents a transformative solution to enhance the School Food Environment. We specialise in revitalising traditional Tuck-shops, turning them into Nutrition Hubs within the school campus. Our ultimate goal is to revolutionise the landscape of school food in South Africa by forging collaborative partnerships with educational institutions, thereby generating shared value to tackle prevalent social challenges.
Inadequate regulation of the School Food Environment has paved the way for the marketing and distribution of unhealthy food options to children, impeding their right to access nutritious meals at school. Hiteka bridges this gap, empowering school children by providing access to well-balanced, nourishing meals, ensuring their overall wellbeing and fostering healthier eating habits.
How it Started
The journey began in 2019, launching our first Nutrition Hub at a high school in Kempton Park, within six months we proudly opened our second hub in the same area.
During this remarkable year, we achieved recognition by winning a prize in the City of Ekurhuleni’s Festival of Ideas competition. In 2022, we undertook a comprehensive evaluation and subsequently revamped our strategic plan.
Our renewed focus lies in cultivating enduring partnerships with schools, creating meaningful connections based on shared value and mutual benefit.

Hiteka’s story & its operations
Hiteka is the facelift to the school food environment founded by Labani Mgimeti neè Shilubana.
It all began with an idea that learners and students deserve to have ACCESS to nourishing meals, KNOWLEDGE on the importance of eating a balanced diet and AVAILABILITY of seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables in schools.
Meet Labani, a vibrant and energetic village girl from Limpopo, proudly bringing you Hiteka, a healthy and delicious school lunch partner that’s redefining the way children eat in schools.
Raised in a lush orchard farm, ka Shiluvane, she grew up enjoying organic fresh produce and watching roaming cattle grazing on the mountain pasture. Labani boasts over 14 years experience in the restaurant industry.
Hiteka is led by our fearless COO Tiyimiselo Mgimeti, a Tuks alumni who holds a BPolSci coupled with a background in Operations Management in the recycling industry and powered by our dynamic duo of young ambassadors, Kayla 12 & Kevon 9 who are active and dedicated athletes in their school.

Our Offering
